Privacy policy
We collect as little as we need. We never sell your personal information, and we never share your email address with sellers or advertisers.
What we collect, and why
When you sign up for our checklist
- What: your email address, your first name if you give it, the page you signed up on, the campaign tags from the ad or link that brought you (for example “utm_source”), the exact consent wording you agreed to, the date and time, and a scrambled (hashed) version of your IP address.
- Why: to send you occasional research updates by email, to show that you agreed to receive them, to see which pages and ads bring sign-ups, and to stop spam sign-ups.
When you use our contact form
- What: your name, email address and message, the date and time, and a hashed version of your IP address.
- Why: to reply to you and to stop spam.
When you click a buy button
- What: which product and page you clicked from, campaign tags and ad click IDs from the ad that brought you (such as the ad network’s click ID and the website where the ad appeared), a hashed version of your IP address, a shortened description of your browser, and the date and time. We don’t record your name or email address here.
- Why: to measure which ads and pages lead to clicks.
- Shared with: we pass the campaign tags and click ID to ClickBank in the link, so the sale can be matched to the right ad. We don’t pass your name or email address.
About IP addresses
We never store your IP address itself. We store a one-way hash of it, made with a secret key, so we can limit spam and repeated attempts without knowing your address.
Cookies
- rtlf_sid: a session cookie used by our forms to keep them secure and to show you messages after you submit. It is deleted when you close your browser.
- rtlf_campaign: stores the campaign tags from the ad or link that brought you, so we can tell which ad led to a sign-up or a click. It lasts 30 days and contains no personal details.
Advertising pixels
We don’t currently use advertising pixels (such as the Meta Pixel or Google tag) on this site. If we start using them, we’ll update this policy first.
Who else handles your data
- Our web host stores this site and its database. Like most hosts, it may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and pages requested, for security and troubleshooting.
- ClickBank and the seller: when you click a buy button, you leave our site. What you do there is covered by their privacy policies, not ours.
- An email service: when we start sending emails, we’ll use an email service provider to store your address and send our emails on our behalf.
We don’t sell or rent your personal information to anyone.
How long we keep it
Old records are deleted automatically on this schedule:
- Sign-ups: we keep your details until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Within 30 days of unsubscribing, we delete your name, the page you signed up on, the campaign tags and the hashed IP address. We keep only your email address and the date you unsubscribed, as a do-not-email list, so we never email you again by mistake. If you ask, we’ll delete these too.
- Contact messages: deleted 12 months after we’ve dealt with them, or sooner if you ask.
- Click records: deleted 13 months after the click.
- Spam-protection records: hashed IP counters are deleted after 48 hours.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe anytime with the link in any of our emails, or email us.
- Ask us what we hold about you, to correct it, or to delete it, by emailing contact@readthelabelfirst.com. Depending on the state you live in, you may have legal rights to do this, and we’ll honor these requests wherever you live.
Children
This site is for adults. It isn’t directed at children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect information from them.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we use your information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
